Like the energy contained in the children´s kiai, May 2024 ends by renewing the spirit of IOGKF Brazil. We are all happy, and satisfied, to participate in the standardization Gasshuku, conducted by the organization's representative in Brazil, our Chief Instructor, Zé Mário Monteiro Sensei, in the city of Carmo do Rio Claro, here in our beloved Minas Gerais.
Just as parent teaching their children their first steps, Zé Mário Sensei's choice of training program made the event's objective clear. The details passed on to the instructors and other members about the execution of basic jumbi undo techniques, the emphasis on mawashi uke technique, tai otoshi, tai sabaki, among other elements and principles of Okinawan Karate from IOGKF. It was a basic training, yes, basic! But we should never confuse basic things with unimportant ones. Our instructor made this very clear in the sessions on the last day: "Train [applications of techniques] as kihon."
Understanding the basics in its primordial sense is necessary to make the most of our last Gasshuku. Basic is base, fundamental. In this sense, the three days of training we had in Carmo do Rio Claro showed the robust structure of the foundations of some principles and techniques of the karate of IOGKF.
One can imagine the goal to be achieved in the practice of karate, however, it is like a distant peak of a mountain to be conquered seen from afar. Dedication, tireless effort, and perseverance are needed to climb the mountain and approach the unattainable top.
Climbing matters itself.
